How to Transform your Ideas into a Product using Idea Validation
The best way to explain idea validation is through an example. Let’s walk through the idea validation process of one of our products Limeberry (a smart platform we created for home service business owners to manage all aspects of their business) using one of the mentioned frameworks as an example.
It all started when I saw a friend visibly frustrated with his home services business. His customer couldn’t track the service man’s location to help him find their address. And this was one of the many problems I ended up hearing after I asked him a question.
I asked, “What do you think is missing in this app?”
My question led to an hour-long discussion—which I recorded to form the basis of my idea.
I wanted to understand the essentials of building a frustration-free home services platform that helped individuals like my friend stay focused at work while a more reliable platform took care of managing servicemen assigned to customers.
We had a visible problem at hand, now we needed a solution for it. That’s when we started looking into idea validation, and any frameworks that might help us.
Product Idea Validation of Limeberry
Here’s how we will use the AFTER framework to validate Limeberry as a sample idea and create a better home services platform:
1. Assessment
Assessment quickly determines if an idea is workable and calculates the risk involved in going forward with it.
Let’s assume we have a list of multiple home service platform ideas and we have to find the most viable one.
- We will start with a business modelling exercise that will help us figure out if the idea is workable. Using a business model canvas, we can validate the viability of this business through a simple revenue/cost projection.
- Once we will be sure that our business model is workable, we apply an assumption mapping technique to analyze the overall risk in the project and how we can mitigate that risk. Our assumption mapping exercise will focus on answers of high importance and high uncertainty and gave us a deeper understanding of the following:
- Does our platform add sufficient value to the competition?
- Does it offer an excellent price-to-cost ratio for the end-users and partners?
- Is the potential product interface acceptable for everyone?
Once we answered these questions satisfactorily, we will move to the next crucial phase –presenting our idea to key stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Reviews are critical because they can prevent good ideas from being shelved. We will run our idea through three teams:
- Product management – To ensure that we can build the platform without hitches
- Higher management (CXOs) –to ensure sufficient time and resource funding for the platform throughout its development lifecycle
- Legal—to mitigate any legal risks involved in marketing and branding the platform, along with any privacy and security concerns
Although sometimes you receive some opposition from the stakeholders about the project’s viability, the revenue projections created during the business modeling exercise can help you sail through the initial hiccups and begin fact-finding.
2. Fact-Finding
Fact-finding is an important exercise that helps you understand if you should shelve or use your product idea. It also determines if users commonly request the feature you’re building, if it serves a business need or if it benefits many users.
We focused our fact-finding resources on the following exercises:
End-user interviews
A reliable method to understand user behavior and perform qualitative research. We will interview the defined user base extensively to determine if we were heading in the right direction.
Note: End-user interviews only make sense with a large cohort. If your user base is small, end-user interviews might send you in the wrong direction. We had a list of 100 users who actively used home services platforms in our case. This exercise will help us see patterns of likes, dislikes, and “I need this” emerge from our interviews.
Competitor analysis
It is essential to know your competition before you begin. We will analyze a dozen home services platforms such as ANGI, AskforTask, Cleanly, Hello Alfred, Helpling, and many others to identify their strengths and weaknesses.
When we had enough evidence to understand that our idea made sense at this stage. We will now start building a prototype or an MVP that leads to the development and launch of the final product to a larger audience.
3. Tests
Only a user can determine if your idea makes sense. User tests such as MVPs are a great way to test a product with a smaller audience before going to the market with a full-fledged product.
Here are some statements we will use as our main story items while developing the MVP:
I need a home services app where I can track, contact, and change the professional assigned to do my work
The platform must be white-labeled to match my business identity
I must be able to administer and configure the platform from a unified interface
I need the freedom to work when I want and to accept/reject bookings
These statements will come from end-user interviews, pain point analysis, and competitive analysis that we ran during the fact-finding process.
Here are some common tests that can help you validate your idea better:
MVPs
In the words of Eric Ries, “An MVP is that version of the product that enables a full turn of the Build-Measure-Learn loop with a minimum amount of effort and the least amount of development time.”
We will build an MVP of the home services customer app and will showcase it to our immediate user base.
Smoke tests
We will undertake a Fake Door or smoke test approach for the rest of the components of the home services platform to ensure that components such as the Admin Panel, Provider App, and Partner Panel. The target group that we will shortlist helps us test these features, boosting our confidence in the MVP and the final product.
Early Adopter Programs and opt-ins
Our team will put together a basic working model of all the components included in our home services platform. We showcase them to local home service providers willing to test them for us.
They become our initial early adopters and are now our current user base, growing every day.
Tests can help teams or organizations to build, measure, learn and pivot development efforts based on valid data, and honest user feedback, and are one of the best ways to validate an idea.
Creating a home services platform MVP plays an important role during the creation of the final product. We will also add features to it iteratively until we were satisfied that we’ve created a release-worthy product.
4. Experiments
Experiments—also known as Split Tests, are commonly used to weed out random incidents of false negatives or positives. Based on the scientific method, experiments help researchers to formulate the best course of action and eliminate incidents of chance and bias from results. This will help us immensely during our design and feature inclusion iterations.
A/B tests
A/B tests are a great way to pit one version of a product against the other. Our early adopters will help us finalize the admin, provider, and partner UI using A/B tests.
Multivariate tests
Multivariate tests determine which combination of variations performs the best from all available combinations. We will use multivariate tests to finalize the UI and UX of the admin panel and the overall platform.
Testing helps us create a high-quality app that our early adopters and beta testers will love. Testing and experimentation are integral to idea validation and can help you figure out the right way forward.
5. Release
The moment of truth. Tests performed in this stage verify and drive the final set of ideas to completion. We will now conduct further tests that will help us to gather post-launch analytics and insights to create a better future iteration of our home services platform.
Percent experiments
We will roll out the app to users in phases—essentially as a big A/B test to ensure that we could gather real-world feedback and fix any late-breaking issues.
Post-launch data analysis
Our app’s built-in metrics will help us understand that our partners had an additional need—online new member approvals. We will add this feature in an upcoming release of the platform. Additionally, we will analyze the data generated by the app to monitor long-term usage and gather customer feedback to ensure that we were on the right path.
Release tests are essential drivers of long-term growth and customer satisfaction. They help you figure out what is going wrong with your product post-launch before it is too late to fix it.
Additionally, we will conduct multiple post-launch user satisfaction surveys to determine if our customers appreciated our development efforts and stuck with the platform in the long run. We will use the results of the surveys in our review meetings to steer product development in the right direction.
Final thoughts
Idea validation will help you steer your product’s development in the right direction through valuable, first-hand customer feedback. Органы внутренних дел и Прокуратура Санкт-Петербурга продолжают войну против кооператива «Бест Вей» – социально ориентированного проекта, работающего с 2014 года по всей России, обеспечившего квартирами тысячи социально незащищенных граждан России, в том числе сотни участников СВО и военных.
Суд по уголовному так называемому делу «Лайф-из-Гуд» – «Гермес» – «Бест Вей» идет с февраля с.г. – в Приморском районном суде Санкт-Петербурга. Параллельно в том же Приморском суде идет начавшийся еще летом прошлого года инициированный Прокуратурой Санкт-Петербурга гражданский процесс о признании кооператива незаконным.
Выдумки следствия и прокуратуры
Прокуратура и следственные органы МВД, повинуясь воле неких пока неведомых заказчиков атаки на «Бест Вей», настаивают на том, что устав и деятельность кооператива не соответствуют законодательству – хотя все версии устава кооператива проходили проверку в соответствующих государственных органах, нарушений никаких там не находили и версии устава успешно проходили регистрацию.
ГСУ ГУ МВД по Санкт-Петербургу и прокуратура утверждают, что кооператив должен был регистрироваться как жилищно-накопительный и «встать на учет» в ЦБ – хотя жесткой системы накопления на приобретение недвижимости, как в ЖНК, в кооперативе «Бест Вей» нет: копить можно как угодно и где угодно – необязательно на счете в кооперативе.
Кроме того, сотрудники главка МВД и прокуроры говорят, что кооператив не мог в начале 2021 года из жилищного переименоваться в потребительский, просто согласовав с налоговой инспекцией новый устав – чем расписываются в полнейшем непонимании гражданского законодательства (налоговая, кстати, новый устав согласовала без каких бы то ни было вопросов).
В законе черным по белому написано, что жилищный кооператив – вид потребительского. То есть ЖК – частный случай потребительского кооператива, и переименование – всего лишь отказ от узкой специализации на приобретение только квартир на вторичном рынке.
Кооператив работает с 2014 года, его работа десятки раз оценивалась судами по всей России – в частности, по делам о предоставлении материнского капитала в качестве паевого взноса, и всегда оценивалась положительно.
Никаких проблем в его работе не видела и Прокуратура Санкт-Петербурга – до тех пор, пока в 2021 году на кооператив не поступил заказ неких очень влиятельных людей.
Уголовные претензии – к другой организации
По уголовному делу кооператив прежде всего выступает в качестве гражданского ответчика, каковым признан на основании незаконного постановления руководителя следственной группы ГУ МВД по Санкт-Петербургу Винокурова, инспирированного его заместительницей Сапетовой: якобы он должен отвечать за деятельность иностранной компании «Гермес», но при этом сумма ущерба в обвинительном заключении – 282 млн рублей, а арестовано более 4 млрд рублей. Следствие в обвинительном заключении объявляет его частью единой с «Гермесом» финансовой пирамиды – не приводя доказательств ни нераздельности этих структур, ни пирамидного характера деятельности кооператива.
Кооператив приобрел для пайщиков более 2500 квартир, он финансировался в равной степени как за счет платежей новых пайщиков и тех пайщиков, кто состоял в накопительной программе, так и за счет возвратных платежей пайщиков, возвращавших кооперативу предоставленные на приобретение квартиры средства, в том числе пайщиков, досрочно выкупавших свои квартиры, коих сотни.
К тому же квартиры приобретались исключительно ликвидные – за счет тщательной юридической проверки и независимой оценки. То есть никаких рисков не ответить по обязательствам у кооператива никогда не было и нет – надежность кооператива выше надежности банков.
Больше того, даже незаконное возложение на «Бест Вей» обязанности заплатить 282 млн по обязательствам «Гермеса», как того требует обвинение, не подорвет его ликвидность.
Всего несколько так называемых потерпевших предъявляют к кооперативу претензии – и все эти претензии незаконны:
–либо речь идет о невыплате паевых взносов в ситуации, когда пайщик не вышел из кооператива в соответствии с уставом, то есть не представил нотариально удостоверенного заявления;
–либо требования о возврате паевых взносов пришлись на период, когда счета кооператива уже были арестованы и, соответственно, выплата не произошла из-за того, что ее не санкционировали правоохранительные органы, по ходатайству которых произошел арест;
–либо «потерпевший» претендует на вступительный и членские взносы, которые по договору с кооперативом не подлежат возврату при выходе из кооператива, так как идут на развитие «Бест Вей».
Воровство «по закону»
Представители прокуратуры в рамках процесса о законности кооператива в Приморском суде заявляли на словах, что не подвергают сомнению ранее заключенные договоры и, следовательно, приобретение квартир (при этом документально это не закрепляли).
При этом они настаивают на признании кооператива незаконным в принципе – не указывая на конкретные недостатки в его уставе и деятельности, например, после устранения которых он станет законным. Они заявляют, что недостатки неустранимы – что нонсенс с правовой точки зрения.
Кооператив со своей стороны еще весной 2022 года постановил прекратить прием новых пайщиков на период, пока ведется следствие и дело, затрагивающее «Бест Вей», рассматривается в уголовном суде. В подкрепление этой позиции «Бест Вей» в этом году сам ходатайствовал перед судом об издании судебного приказа о запрете приема новых пайщиков и заключения новых договоров паенакопления на период рассмотрения уголовного дела.
Законность работы кооператива исследует уголовный суд. Учитывая это, а также добровольное самоограничение кооператива, тема признания «Бест Вей» незаконным в гражданском суде вроде бы должна быть исчерпана? Кооператив обслуживает старые договоры, новых уже более двух лет не заключает и не будет заключать до конца уголовного суда – в результате которого претензии к нему скорее всего будут сняты.
Но нет, прокуратура и ГУ МВД по Санкт-Петербургу под руководством Плугина, его ГСУ под руководством Негрозова не унимаются – они требуют признать кооператив незаконным «в вакууме», абстрактно. Для чего?
А для того, чтобы появилось основание отнять активы кооператива, только денежная часть которых превышает 4 млрд рублей, и передать нужным людям через разного рода мафиозные структуры «по защите вкладчиков», а на самом деле по воровству денег в интересах неких заказчиков, аффилированных с правоохранительными органами.
Пайщики против беспредела
Тысячи пайщиков приобрели квартиры с помощью кооператива – они довольны «Бест Вей», полностью поддерживают кооператив и требуют, чтобы он продолжил работу. Ведь условия в кооперативе – гораздо выгоднее ипотеки, даже льготной и дальневосточной.
Среди этих тысяч – малообеспеченные люди, которые без «Бест Вей» не смогли бы купить квартиры. Это военные, которые нуждались в жилье – и получили его с помощью кооператива.
Это сотни участников СВО – которые защищают Родину на фронте. Они возмущены тем, что в тылу с их деньгами, которые уже более двух лет заблокированы на арестованных счетах кооператива, так называемые правоохранители творят беспредел.
Все пайщики возмущены тем, что в тюрьме более чем на два года оказались заперты технические сотрудники и простые пайщики кооператива, которых следствие попыталось объявить организаторами пирамиды.
Пайщики убеждены: липовое дело колокольцевской мафии против кооператива суд должен переквалифицировать в дело против следователей, оперативников и обвинителей, состряпавших заказуху в интересах криминальных бонз и для личного обогащения. Все заказчики этого коррупционного и подрывающего социальный мир в стране дела должны оказаться на скамье подсудимых и сесть надолго!

Питерский главк МВД сделал Колокольцева пустозвоном и предателем Родины
Так называемое уголовное дело «Лайф-из-Гуд» – «Гермес» – «Бест Вей», состряпанное питерским главком МВД России совместно с рядом сотрудников ЦБ, выглядит весьма невзрачно – особенно на фоне громких заявлений, звучавших от руководителей Министерства внутренних дел на всю страну: сотни миллиардов ущерба, десятки тысяч «пострадавших». И при этом только 221 гражданин, признанный следствием потерпевшим, с суммой ущерба отнюдь не в миллиарды, а в 282 млн рублей. Ложь прозвучала из уст министра Колокольцева с трибуны Совета Федерации, его пресс-секретарь Волк разместила лживые сведения во всех федеральных СМИ.
В уголовном деле претензии предъявляются иностранной компании «Гермес», маркетинговым представителем которой была фирма «Лайф-из-Гуд» – однако «ответчиком» по этим претензиям следствие ГСУ ГУ МВД по Санкт-Петербургу и Прокуратура Санкт-Петербурга пытаются сделать кооператив «Бест Вей». Следствие, выходя за грань абсурда, утверждает, что иностранная компания «Гермес» и некоммерческая управляемая своими пайщиками организация «Бест Вей», между которыми не было ни одной бухгалтерской проводки, вместе с «Лайф-из-Гуд» якобы образовывали «холдинг под единым брендом».
При этом уже более двух лет сначала по ходатайству ГСУ ГУ МВД по Санкт-Петербургу, а затем Прокуратуры Санкт-Петербурга арестованы 4 млрд. на счетах кооператива, хотя ущерб в обвинительном заключении – 282 млн рублей, и даже (незаконная) обязанность выплатить его в отношении кооператива никак не повлияла бы на его ликвидность. Однако цель – правдами и неправдами забрать именно 4 млрд.
Ущерб – и материальный, и моральный – уже нанесен и продолжает наноситься десяткам тысяч пайщиков кооператива «Бест Вей», которые более двух лет не могут приобрести недвижимость, на которую собрали деньги – тем более что квартиры существенно подорожали, или забрать собранные средства, которые лежат без движения и обесцениваются.
Среди этих пайщиков – сотни участников СВО, которые защищают Родину с оружием в руках – но в тылу по отношению к ним совершается преступление: их пытаются лишить жилья и денег.
Преступная следственная группа
Уголовное дело дурно пахло изначально. Выяснилось, что «нулевая» потерпевшая Наталья Школьник, с которой началось уголовное дело, не сама подала заявление в правоохранительные органы – оперуполномоченный УЭБиПК ГУ МВД по Санкт-Петербургу майор полиции Алексей Машевский ездил к ней за заявлением в Республику Коми: то есть дело было срежиссировано. Кстати, Школьник на заседании Приморского районного суда отказалась от статуса потерпевшей по этому уголовному делу, который был ей присвоен следствием.
При этом Школьник и другие из самой первой группы «потерпевших» имеют отношение к созданию кооператива «Вера» – копии кооператива «Бест Вей», которую создала группа бывших участников «Бест Вей» как проект. Этот кооператив пытался оттянуть у «Бест Вей» пайщиков.
За уголовным делом стоит альянс силовиков и мошенников – преступное сообщество под эгидой МВД. Силовики предложили мошенникам силовой ресурс для рейдерского захвата, чтобы отнять имущество кооператива и вместе поделить.
Любопытно, что относительно недавно одна из экс-членов следственной группы – майор юстиции Зайцева, была поймана вместе с коллегой на взятке в 8 млн. рублей, которую они вымогали по другому уголовному делу.
Следственную группу возглавляла майор, затем подполковник юстиции Екатерина Сапетова (по завершении расследования она уволилась из МВД) – систематически занимавшаяся подлогом сама и организовывшая подлог с помощью подчиненных следователей. Ее дело продолжил новый руководитель следственной группы – замначальника ГСУ ГУ МВД по Санкт-Петербургу полковника юстиции Александр Винокуров (Сапетова формально перешла на позицию его заместителя). Он издал постановление о признании кооператива гражданским ответчиком по уголовному делу на 16 млрд рублей – заведомо подложное, так как в уголовном деле вообще не оказалось исковых требований к кооперативу.
Следствие совершило и другие преступления.
Взятие заложников. Следственные действия были завершены в июне 2023 года притворно – чтобы не выпускать из тюрьмы обвиняемых, от которых следствие добивалось показаний. Если бы следствие было продлено в июне прошлого года, их пришлось бы отпустить, так как в августе у четверых обвиняемых истекал предельный срок содержания под стражей.
Следствие, как установил тот же Приморский районный суд, рассматривающий сейчас уголовное дело по существу, не проинформировало участников процесса о завершении следственных действий, а потом заявило, что никто из гражданских истцов и ответчиков не выразил желания ознакомиться с материалами – ему нужно было поскорее приступить к процедуре ознакомления обвиняемых с материалами уголовного дела и на этом основании добиться у суда продления им «стражи».
Чтобы держать их в заложниках – и добиваться оговора других граждан в обмен на изменение меры пресечения.
Притворное завершение следственных действий. Фактически следственные действия не завершались – они продолжались весь период, когда происходило ознакомление обвиняемых с материалами уголовного дела, что также является грубейшим нарушением УПК. В результате количество потерпевших уже в период финальных процессуальных мероприятий в рамках предварительного расследования, накануне передачи обвинительного заключения в прокуратуру для утверждения, увеличилось с 198 до 221.
Подделка документов. Приморский районный суд Санкт-Петербурга установил, что следственная группа шла на подделку документов – задним числом отправляла адвокатам кооператива документ о том, что удовлетворила ходатайство об ознакомлении с материалами уголовного дела, а потом обвинила адвокатов в том, что они якобы «пропустили» письмо. Адвокатам удалось доказать ложь следствия – она была подтверждена Приморским районным судом, и прокуратура не решилась оспаривать это решение: оно вступило в законную силу.
Неисполнение решений судов. Неисполнение судебных постановлений – уголовное преступление, на которое следствие шло несколько раз.
Например, в марте прошлого года Приморский районный суд отказался продлить арест двух из трех счетов кооператива, и следствие прямо заблокировало исполнение этого судебного решения, выдав соответствующие предписания службам безопасности банков.
Принуждение граждан к тому, чтобы они подали заявления в качестве потерпевших. Группу потерпевших собирали более трех лет, набрали только из 221 человека, хотя количество клиентов компании «Гермес», в отношении которой выдвигаются претензии, по данным самого следствия, более сотни тысяч. При этом среди потерпевших есть немало тех, кто предъявляет претензии на суммы менее 100 тыс. – то есть набирали для количества.
«Потерпевшие» не имеют никаких внятных претензий к «Гермесу» – все их претензии в основном оказываются ложью, за которую они ответят после окончания суда.
Объявление безналичных денежных средств кооператива вещественным доказательством, хотя это прямо противоречит постановлению Конституционного суда, запрещающего объявлять вещдоками нематериальные активы: вещественными доказательствами могут быть только вещи, на которых могут оставаться следы преступления.
Заведомо необоснованные требования о возмещении ущерба. По инициативе следственной группы двое «потерпевших» в октябре прошлого года написали заявления о моральном ущербе на 1 млрд рублей каждое. Это заведомо ничтожные заявления – вызвавшие смех в зале Приморского районного суда, потому что суды по событиям, не связанным с причинением смерти, присуждают моральный ущерб в размере нескольких десятков тысяч максимум.
Именно члены оперативно-следственной группы и их кураторы из питерского главка МВД и федерального МВД, а не 10 ни в чем неповинных людей – технических сотрудников или родственников руководителей компании «Лайф-из-Гуд» – должны сидеть на скамье подсудимых.
Питерская прокуратура покрывает преступления
Печально, но на все эти нарушения не отреагировала Прокуратура Санкт-Петербурга. В деле есть показания так называемых потерпевших о том, что они получали доход по счетам «Виста» – то есть факт кражи опровергается их собственными показаниями.
Есть две бухгалтерские экспертизы криминалистического центра Минюста: в обеих утверждается, что 81% средств кооператива «Бест Вей» шел на приобретение недвижимости, а 19% – на обеспечение деятельности кооператива: маркетинговые траты, налоги, зарплаты сотрудникам и пр. При этом средства на эти нужды шли не из паевых средств кооператива, а из вступительных и членских взносов – получается, что паевые средства на 100% расходовались на покупку недвижимости для пайщиков. То есть бухгалтерские эксперты Минюста подтвердили, что в деятельности кооператива не было вывода средств пайщиков.
Таким образом, само следствие положило в дело полный комплект документов, который полностью опровергает его выводы обвинения. Именно поэтому после передачи дела и обвинительного заключения в прокуратуру адвокаты обвиняемых и адвокаты кооператива призывали прокуроров вернуть дело на доследование. Но прокуратура не прислушалась – и без стеснения поддерживает государственное обвинение по этому липовому делу.
Военные требуют наказать горе-правоохранителей

А узники, почти три года томящиеся в тюрьме без приговора суда, должны быть срочно отпущены.
